Day 1

ESG foundations, business implications and material priorities

Module 1 — ESG architecture and the Nigerian reporting context

  • ESG, sustainability and responsible-business concepts
  • Regulatory, investor, lender and market drivers
  • IFRS S1/S2, FRC Nigeria, GRI, SASB, NSBP and SDG relationships

Practical application: Map applicable requirements to a sample organisation.

Module 2 — Environmental, social and governance issue landscape

  • Climate, energy, pollution, water, waste and biodiversity
  • Workforce, safety, human rights, customers, communities and supply chains
  • Board oversight, ethics, risk management, controls and transparency

Practical application: Construct an industry-specific ESG topic universe.

Module 3 — Stakeholder engagement and materiality assessment

  • Stakeholder mapping and engagement design
  • Impacts, dependencies, risks and opportunities
  • Scoring criteria, thresholds, validation and materiality matrix

Practical application: Score priority topics and defend the resulting materiality assessment.

Strategy, implementation, data governance and reporting

Module 4 — ESG strategy, policies, objectives and targets

  • Translating material topics into strategic pillars
  • Designing SMART objectives, KPIs, baselines and targets

Practical application: Develop one complete strategy pillar and implementation scorecard.

Module 5 — Governance, operating model and internal controls

  • Board, committee, management and process-owner roles
  • Data ownership, evidence, review, approval and escalation
  • Policies, risk integration, control activities and audit trail

Practical application: Create an ESG governance and RACI model.

Module 6 — Performance management and credible reporting

  • Report boundary, disclosure index and framework mapping
  • Decision-useful narrative, metrics and connected information
  • Assurance readiness, greenwashing prevention and implementation roadmap

Practical application: Draft a disclosure and complete a readiness gap assessment.
